Today, there are several options for you to consider in daycare for child. There are the typical Licensed daycare centres that can be found in about every city and there are Licensed home daycares. Licensed Home daycares mean daycare providers take care of children in their homes but at the same time they are registered with Licensed Agencies. There are pros and cons of the two choices that need to be weighed carefully for your child.

Daycare Centres: 

There are professional centres that offer a lot for those in need of childcare. They tend to be rather large and located strategically for marketing and good business sense. But have you really thought of the good and the bad of using such centres. 
Pros of Using Daycare Centres: 

1. Regulated – Daycare centres are licensed with Ministry. They have set their rules and regulations regarding play, eat and sleep in. This is very important as you are leaving your child in the hands of someone else for many hours a day.   2. Professionals – Those that work with your child in centres are professionals that know how to care for your child.   3. Socialization – Your child is not limited in their chances to interact with other children. In these centres they have the chance to interact with many children from all backgrounds. This helps in developing social skills that will come in handy later in life.  

Cons of Using Daycare Centres 

1 . Cost – Using a daycare Centre is not cheap. it can be rather pricy. There are some families that spend half of their income here.   

2. No Flexibility – You wont find much flexibility in terms of schedule.  They provide fixed schedule morning to evening.   

3. Waiting Lists – Just because you want a particular daycare Centre does not mean you’ll get it. There are waiting lists that could have you waiting weeks or months or longer to get one child in for a few hours a day. 

Licensed Home Daycares

These are daycares that are located in individual homes. This is not a business in the  sense of stockholders or such. This is typically an agency with which home childcare providers are registered. Home childcare providers are those people who opened their home to a few children to watch on a regular basis.  

Pros of Using Home Daycares    

1. Cost – Home based child care agencies charge you on hourly basis. It means a lot of savings as compare to centres. These tend to be less pricy and they can be more flexible in payment.    

2. Flexible hours – Most home daycares are very flexible with times they can watch your child as well as being able to take them for longer periods in case of school holidays or a change in work schedules. Home based child care agencies also offers different schedules like evenings, weekends and nights in different locations.   

 3. Attention – In daycare centres, there could be 50 or hundred children. They can easily get lost in the crowd. In licensed home daycares, provider to children ratio is 1:6 that means they will get the attention they need and not just be a number in a group.    

4. Home Away from Home – Home daycares do not look like school. It is a place much like their own home with all the familiar things. This can make it easier on a child to enjoy themselves and relax.     

5. Regulation – Licensed Home child care providers strictly follow all rules and regulations provided by Ministry of Education. Agency is responsible to keep an updated background checks and immunization records of providers and their family members. These providers continuously monitored from agency supervisors and Ministry visitors.   6. Training – Home based child care agency provides training to the their providers. Besides this some of the home based child care providers are CPR trained.    

7. Network of Providers – Usually childcare agencies have a network of licensed homes. In case if one childcare provider have to go on vacation or get sick, you don’t need to find alternate childcare spots yourself, agency can provide you another location. 

Cons of using Home Daycares 

1. Less Resources – Home childcare providers usually have less resources to provide learning tools.  

 Whether a daycare centres or a home daycare is the best for your child is up to you. Visit the daycares, investigate. Go with what is best for you and your child.
